LSR Group completes modernization works on St. Petersburg tramway lines
02 September 2019
LSR Group finished its construction and reconstruction of tram networks in Krasnogvardeysky District of St. Petersburg. On 1 September, Alexander Beglov, acting Governor of Saint Petersburg, officially announced the launch of the new "Chizhik" tram routes.
Andrey Molchanov, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee of LSR Group, Leonid Sorokko, Deputy CEO for Construction and a member of the Executive Committee of LSR Group, Eduard Batanov, Vice Governor of Saint Petersburg, as well as the heads of other specialist committees and other guests were among the participants at the opening ceremony.
"I would like to thank LSR Group for adhering to its commitments and finishing the project on time", Mr. Beglov stated. ""Chizhik" is an innovative and unique project for Saint Petersburg and the entire country alike. This means that we are witnessing a truly historical event: today, Saint Petersburg reclaims its title of the tram capital. The new road system with a priority lane helps residents reach the nearest metro station within 10-20 minutes from the remote parts of the city. And most importantly, the fare will be priced at a level of all other ground transport services".
A concession agreement was signed with the Government of St. Petersburg in 2016, aiming to make the "Chizhik" project a reality. LSR-Stroy, a member of the LSR Group, was the main contractor for construction services. In three years, 28 km of new tramway tracks were constructed and tram depot No. 11 was built on Potapov Street. This also includes tram and overhead lines stretching another 4.4 km. Presently, the total rolling stock is 29 units, with the opportunity to increase this number significantly with a minimum financial investment, via expanding the facility's open space.
The project also included construction of 38 tram stops where the company built 32 pavilions. 23 innovative high-speed "Chizhik" trams manufactured by Stadler (a Swiss company) were purchased, that can carry out up to 450 runs per day and transport around 90 thousand people. The concessionaire who will now operate the tram network and passenger transport is the Transportation Concession Company, LLC (a joint venture of LSR Group, Leader Investment Company, and other investors).
Another new transportation asset of Krasnogvardeysky District, the new section of Granitnaya Street, recently opened for vehicle traffic, was also delivered by the LSR-Stroy. Under a government contract, the company built a new four-lane road over 1.5 km long, a 32-metre bridge across Okkervil River, tram lines to operate in the area, and also reconstructed utility communication networks, sewer systems, heating, water and gas supply networks. The new section of Granitnaya Street connects Novocherkassky Prospekt and Utkin Pereulok near Ladozhsky railway station.
