Best Young Sportsmen
22 October 2007
On October 15, 2007 Granit-Kuznechnoye held a mini football tournament as part of LSR Group’s programme "Best Young Sportsmen" with the participation of the students of the Kuznechenskaya secondary school.
Specifically for the competition, Granit-Kuznechnoye renovated the football field, and ordered a new goal and uniforms for the boys. Competing in the event were 4th to 9th form pupils of the Kuznechenskaya secondary school.
The players were not discouraged even by a light rain that accompanied almost the whole of the tournament. There were three age nominations to determine the winners: students of 4th and 5th forms, 6th and 7th forms, and 8th and 9th forms. All of the participants received commemorative medals and prizes with Zenit football club paraphernalia: caps, scarves, towels and key chains. The best players were awarded with a trip to Moscow to pull for the Russian national team in the legendary Russia vs. England game.
The trip was quite an experience for them, the boys commented. "The presence of football could be perceived already at the Moscow Railway Station in St. Petersburg, said Sergei Slivinsky, 8th form student named the best goal keeper of the tournament. — It looked as if all of the trains leaving for Moscow were carrying fans only. And when we arrived at the stadium we knew Russia would win. It would have been impossible to lose having such a support!"
9th forms students Rustam Salikhov and Denis Bilyk noted that it was not only the unique football match they will be recalling. A sightseeing tour of Moscow visiting Red Square, the Vorobiyovy Hills, the Poklonnaya Mount and the building of Moscow University was not less important because the boys had never been to Moscow before.
