Vozrozhdenie Sankt Peterburga Construction Corporation 14th International Festival, Archtectonics 2006, was held in the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall

22 November 2006

Residential facility at 60 Shpalernaya Street got a silver diploma (architects Yu.I. Zemtsov, M. O. Kondiain, N. I. Popovskaya, M. V. Baranovsky, with participation of architect G. P. Yakovleva).

The bronze diploma was assigned for reconstruction of the territory of the motion-picture printing laboratory into a low-rise residential facility: 13/15 Second Berezovaya Alley, Kamenny Ostrov (architects E. L. Gerasimov, V. G. Khivrich, O. V. Golovko, S. A. Kudriavtseva, designer M. Ya. Reznichenko, engineer Yu.A. Minkov).

The residential facility at 60 Shpalernaya Street was earlier marked with one of the highest architectural awards of Russia. For instance, in 2003 the Arkhitekton award (St.Petersburg) and the Golden Diploma of the Architectonics 2003 International Festival were given to the facility design.

The stage I and II construction was completed. At the start of the following year, construction of the 3rd stage, which would finalize the architectural image of the facility, will start.

Mr. Ivan Romanov, Manager of Vozrozhdenie Sankt Peterburga Construction Corporation OAO: «The facility has an interesting architecture. 7 towers at the 5-floor level are connected with girderless 16-meter spans. In terms of engineering and complexity of implementation, this solution is unique for St. Petersburg. Application of different types of glass lends lightness and transparency to the building. Panoramic elevators luckily supplement the general idea of the facility. The interior conforms to the style of the facility and meets the highest quality standards.»

Vozrozhdenie Sankt Peterburga Construction Corporation acts as the Building Principal and the general investor of the project. Earlier, a part of the territory provided to the investor belonged to the Construction and Economic College of Municipal Economics; the hotel popularly styled as ‘comb' was situated here.

The Corporation erected an exclusive residential facility in the style of ‘moderate historism' at 13/15 Second Berezovaya Alley. Six buildings are in excellent harmony with the environment and the architecture of Kamenny Ostrov. The newly constructed buildings are fully faced with granite, which is unique for new luxurious buildings in St. Petersburg. The roof is covered with zinc-titanium guaranteed for 100 years; it is a very expensive modern material, so it is used rather rarely.

The facility has its own protected territory is equipped with spacious underground parking lot, many apartments have terraces and winter gardens.

During design and construction, many complex questions were resolved: the adjacent structures were taken into account; very complex engineering support was used: it was necessary to take into account availability of the channel and of own gas boiler room intended for 6 separate buildings.

Evgeny Gerasimov, General Manager of Evgeny Gerasimov & Partners architectural workshop: «Kamenny Ostrov is St. Petersburg Beverly Hills». The construction on this island has neared completion, and nothing seems to be built there. No real estate will be built there, so it may cost whatever price.

In addition to construction of new buildings, the buildings that should have been reconstructed, recreated. These are the buildings from architect Fufaevsky, a recognized master of the modern style of the late 19th — early 20th century. The walls used to be faced with kabantchik tiles typical of that style. We selected the tiles, and the Corporation ordered it in Germany. It was a special order: the tiles did not virtually differ from those used 100 years ago, in terms of size, color and chemical composition.

And the most important thing — Vozrozhdenie Sankt Peterburga Construction Corporation restored the channel that was back-filled in the 19th century. This is a great job: the hydrological situation on the Kamenny Ostrov was restored, as much as possible. By that time, the territory was flooded, because there was not drainage (it was back-filled) from the great channel to the Nevka River, and the small bypass channel (Bezymyanny) was not up to this job. Now that the great channel was restored, the situation improved, and flooding of neighboring territories stopped.«
