Vertical Historic Windows and Doors for M.I. Glinka Small Philharmonic Hall
21 September 2006
The Vertical Window Systems' Works got down to manufacturing historic arched windows of complex structure for M. I. Glinka Small Philharmonic Hall.
The new window structures will be identical with historic windows of the 19th century by their appearance, sections, drawing and the opening method. Special attention is paid to production of arched window systems with complex structure, which prevail in the building. The total area of glazing is to amount to some 350 sq.m.
Most of frame structures and casements, including arched ones, are made of body of ‘everlasting tree' — oak. This material greatly enhances sound-insulating and warmth-preservation properties of the windows facing the busy Nevsky Prospect. The remaining insignificant portion of simple window structures is made of Northern pine and is installed in the building faзade, from the side of Griboedov Channel. All of casements will be adorned with repaired brass accessories of the 19th century, which preserved its technological properties.
In addition, Vertical works will manufacture unique historic window sills for window apertures of the Small Philharmonic Hall. The window sills will have restored 19th century brass grids to allow warm air from heating sections to reach window blocks.
Also, specialists of Vertical works were entrusted to manufacture and install the entrance door for the Small Philharmonic Hall that adorns the main entrance from Nevsky Prospect. The door will be an exact copy of the historic structure that existed from the start of the 19th century and represented two arched door leaves made of oak body, decorated with ingenious pattern. The preserved brass accessories will be carefully repaired and installed back into a new door-case and door leaf.
Vertical Window System Works plans to finalize work at this historic facility in December 2006.
The building of M.I. Glinka Small Philharmonic Hall in the corner of Griboedov Channel embankment and Nevsky Prospect (30 Nevsky Prospect) is interesting not only by its architecture but also by its history: this is a former Engelhardt house (Vasily Vasilievich Engelhardt was a close friend of A.S. Pushkin); late in the 18th — early in the 19th century the halls were frequently used for public meetings, concerts and masquerades, one of which was depicted by M.Yu. Lermontov in his stage play of Masquerade. In 1829, the building was rebuilt under the design by architect P. Jacquot.
Vertical Window Systems Works has already gained experience in glazing facilities of such degree of complexity and responsibility. In particular, the most responsible historical projects of Vertical ZAO includes window and door structures manufactured for the Katalnaya Gorka pavilion in Oranienbaum (June 2006), Smolny Monastery (northern square), St. Trinity Alexander Nevsky Laura (Metropolitan Building and St. Petersburg Diocesan Administration Tower), The Hermitage, building of the St. Petersburg D. D. Shostakovich Academic Philharmonic Big Hall, Mariinsky Palace (building of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly), St. Apostle Andrew the First Called Cathedral (St. Andrew Cathedral).
Vertical Window Systems Works ZAO was separated from Stroydetal OAO in October 2002. The joinery at that enterprise dates back more than 60 years ago. In 2004, Okna Deluxe company that specializes in production of metal and plastic structures was included into Vertical ZAO.
The company has high-performance equipment that supports comprehensive technological cycle of manufacturing high-quality items for any type of modern construction: from window structures to making of doors and unique staircases. With its broad range of manufactured products, Vertical ZAO practices customized approach to each of its clients, both at the stage of product selection and at the stage of post-sale maintenance.
