In 2005, the House-Building Combine Blok began the development of non-standard project solutions for modular sections of houses in the Modernized 137 Series. This was due to the need to offer the market a new type of pre-cast slab-built house, the 'butterfly'. The creation of a new type of house required increasing the output of non-standard items, and this in turn meant increasing work throughout all production units, including the laboratory.
The number of experiments conducted on different constructions to test loading and crack-resistance was increased by 60%, and experiments with additives and new types of cement also by 60% The number of adjustments made to concrete mixes, and the special types of vat made for checking concrete as well as experiments carried out with them have increased on average by 40%.
The House-Building Combine Blok pays great attention to the quality of the products it produces. For this reason the enterprise has its own accredited experimental laboratory, the main objective of which is to supervise the quality of production.
The quality of the houses in the Modernized 137 Series is also established by checking the suitability of the materials to the production process in the laboratory. Here specialists maintain operational control over concrete and mortar mixes and saleable concrete and inspect the content of natural radionuclide. In the same way, materials that are to be part of future ferro-concrete products are also subjected to analysis. These include: gravel, sandy ballast, cement, cynol, latex, reinforcing steel, heat-insulating tiles and polystyrene tiles. This is followed by testing ready-made products, like interior and exterior wall panels, lift-shafts, staircases, covering tiles, and balcony tiles etc. The laboratory is fitted with special equipment, including an area where the future product of the 137 Series is tested to determine the load-bearing capability of the reinforcement and the quality of the cement and the gravel; a power stand on which products are tested as to the amount of pressure they can withstand; machines for testing reinforcement steel and anchor heads; machines for testing the pressure in the vats, which make it possible to determine the durability of a product; steam-rooms and much else.
“We are fully conscious of the responsible tasks that we perform. Because the quality of the future house depends on the quality of our work, and consequently the length of its life and the wellbeing of its residents,” Valentina Chernyavskaya pointed out.
In 2005, the laboratory obtained accreditation from the Federal State Administration of St. Petersburg to conduct experiments. This made it possible for the enterprise to do its own experiments on ferro-concrete constructions to test such things as pressure, load-bearing capabilities, resistance to cracking, hardness and durability. Previously, the House-Building Combine had to use the services of outside organizations. The accreditation of the laboratory also made it possible to conduct experiments and make appropriate conclusions for other organizations.
